On Cape Cod, community is everything. In times of need, it’s often local organizations that step up first, creating real, immediate impact where it matters most. One of those organizations is the Family Table Collaborative, a nonprofit dedicated to fighting food insecurity and supporting local residents through connection, nourishment, and care.
A Mission Powered by People
At the heart of Family Table Collaborative are the people who show up every day to serve others.

During the 2026 blizzard, when much of Cape Cod was impacted by power outages and dangerous conditions, the organization quickly became a place of warmth and relief. Inside their South Yarmouth headquarters, Family Table Collaborative welcomed community members into a warming center, offering a safe space to rest and recover during the storm.

Behind the scenes, chefs and volunteers worked tirelessly to prepare meals for those in need. Chef Deke Knight, one of the key figures in the operation, helped organize food distribution efforts to shelters across the region, ensuring that no one was left without a hot meal.
A Community Effort in Action
Family Table Collaborative thrives because of its volunteers. People from all walks of life come together to support the mission.

Volunteers like Connor Detellis, a culinary arts student, contribute their time and skills in the kitchen, gaining experience while helping others.

Community members such as Rosemary DeVito and Eve Scott-Ludwig also play an important role, assisting in meal preparation and making sure food reaches those who need it most. Together, they transform simple ingredients into thousands of meals, creating both nourishment and connection.
Turning Space Into Purpose
Family Table Collaborative operates out of a space that once served a different purpose. After the Riverway Lobster House closed, the nonprofit took over the location and turned it into a hub for community support.

Today, that space is filled with activity, from sorting donations to preparing meals that are distributed across Cape Cod. What was once a restaurant is now a lifeline for many.
More Than Just Meals
While food is at the core of their work, Family Table Collaborative offers much more:
Emergency support during crises like severe weather events
Consistent meal distribution to shelters and families
A welcoming environment where people feel supported
Their work brings dignity, comfort, and stability to individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.
A Stronger Community, Together
Family Table Collaborative is a powerful example of what can happen when people come together with a shared purpose.
In moments of crisis and in everyday life, they remind us that community is built through action, compassion, and showing up for one another.
